Job Descriptions:
Drum Major: The Drum Majors’ duties and responsibilities are outlined by the Director of Bands directly to the Drum Majors.Drum Majors are responsible to Staff and the Director of Bands.
Qualifying grade level: 10th (only one selected per year)
Field Captain: The Field Captains are the students who are responsible for the field conduct of the Membership. They give inspections of instruments, uniforms, and music (as well as ensure that the proper protocols are being followed with each of them); organize the Section Leaders for duties relating to upkeep and maintenance of the field or band hall or any other area of action (bus, hotel, etc.); and any other duties delegated to them by the Director of Bands or the Drum Majors. Field Captains answer to the Drum Majors, Staff, and the Director of Bands.
Qualifying grade level: 10th (only one selected per year)
Section Leaders: The Section Leaders are the students who have the administrative and executive charge of each section in the band; i.e. there is a Section Leader for each section in the band (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, mellophone, baritone, tubas, percussion, and guard). Their job is to set drill for their section, to see that the people in the section know their drill, to make sure that the people in their section have their dot books for every rehearsal, to see that the people in their section know their music, to request music from the librarians when needed, to report their attendance (as well as any dot-book, clothing, or equipment violations) to theattendance keepers. They are also responsible for the upkeep of the practice field (that is to say that all trash should be cleaned up, horns and cases should be lined up neatly at the front of the practice field, no excessive chalk marks should be made while setting drill). They must also assist the Bus Captains with their duties. Section Leaders answer to Field Captains, Drum Majors, Staff, and the Director of Bands.

Horn Sergeant: The Horn Sergeant is a student of a “pseudo-leadership” position who’s duties include commanding the FMC proper at awards and retreat, providing cadence when the battery is not present, is present at horn-line music checks, enforces “rehearsal side-line towel” and instrument polish policies, and assists the Field Captains in any duty necessary for the efficient and productive running of the horn-line. They also perform the duty of ensuring the welfare and well-being of members of the horn-line in any issue before it gets to the attention of the leadership posts above them. Horn Sergeants answer to Field Captains, Drum Majors, Staff, and the Director of Bands.
Qualifying grade level: 12th
Bus Captain: The bus captain has the duty of taking roll of all the students on their bus at the start of any trip and after stops during that trip to ensure that all students are accounted for before the bus departs. They are also responsible for assisting the chaperones with the monitoring and adjustment of student behavior on the bus during a trip. During a trip (while in transit) this IS a leadership position (but only at that time... This is not a daily leadership or rehearsal position). While in transit, Bus Captains answer to Field Captains, Drum Majors, Chaperones, Staff, and the Director of Bands.Qualifying grade level: 11th
Attendance: The attendance keepers are the students of a non-leadership position who are charged with keeping accurate, up-to-date information on the attendance of the entire ensemble. They are also responsible for documenting dot-book, clothing, or equipment violations reported by the Captains. These responsibilities are to be concluded by the end of stretching block.
Qualifying grade level: Any
Water: The water managers are the students of a non-leadership position who are charged with providing hydration to the band during its rehearsals. Water, cups, and ice are to be secured before rehearsal in the MCPA coolers and then transported to the rehearsal field. This duty is to be performed by the end of stretching, before the running block. After rehearsal the water managers are responsible for transporting the water coolers and unused cups back to the MCPA room. All water and ice should be dumped from the coolers at the practice field. Water Managers are to let the Field Captains know if Section Leaders or their sections are not picking up trash at the practice field.
Qualifying grade level: Any
Scaffolding Crew: The scaffolding crew is composed of students of a non-leadership position who are charged with assembling and disassembling the scaffolding before and after every rehearsal. One of these students will be given a key to the lock on the scaffolding, and is responsible for locking up the scaffolding and bucket-boards to ensure that nobody steals them. This duty is to be performed by the end of stretching, before running block.
Qualifying grade level: Any (selection based on recommendation of the Scaffolding Crew Leader, who is selected by Mr. Boyd)
Librarian: The librarian’s job is to make sure that all sections have copies of their music by keeping in contact with the Section Leaders. They must also keep accurate record of the music… filing, photocopying, sorting, etc. Librarians must make sure that the filing of the music is kept up to date and is done neatly. Music will include but is not limited to:
1. Show Music (including warm-ups and Amazing Grace)
2. Stand Music (including Fight Song)
3. National Anthem

Quartermaster:The Quartermasters (either Uniform or Equipment) are the students charged with ensuring of the proper care and maintenance of the area of responsibility assigned to them. They also check the Uniform or Equipment rooms to ensure their cleanliness and upkeep. Uniform Quartermasters are responsible for checking the changing areas and ensuring that no uniform parts or street clothes are left in them. Additional duties:
Equipment Quartermaster
1. Responsible for all school owned instruments.
2. Issues rental contracts to approved members.
3. In charge of all loading crews.
4. Maintains accurate records of all instrument inventories and updates the instrument inventory database.
5. Assists the Field Captains in the periodic inspections of instruments.
6. Maintains the storage room organization and maintenance.
7. Alerts Mr. Boyd to any potential equipment related problems.
Uniform Quartermaster
1. Responsible for all school owned uniforms.
2. Assists the MCPA Uniform Chairperson.
3. Assists in maintains accurate records of all uniform related inventories.
4. Assists MCPA in uniform room organization and maintenance.
5. Inspects the uniforms as they are being stored after each performance.
6. Monitors the use of the uniforms by individual band members.
7. Assists with inspections and helps maintain uniform protocols.
8. Alerts Mr. Boyd to any potential uniform related problems.
9. Assists MCPA in the recording of all issued uniform parts in the band student information database.
Qualifying grade level: Vet
Historian: The Historian is charged with the following responsibilities, in addition to any other responsibilities delegated by the Director of Bands:
1. Maintains and assembles the year’s scrapbook.
2. Assists in assembling images (picture and video) for the Video Yearbook
3. Assists in the publication of the band newsletter.
4. Takes pictures at all events both social and educational.
5. Maintains attractive bulletin boards in the rehearsal area.

Publicity Coordinator: The Publicity Coordinator is charged with the following responsibilities, in addition to any other responsibilities delegated by the Director of Bands:
1. Responsible for getting all publicity of the band to the PAHS Media Liaison.
2. Assists in the publication of the band news letter.
3. Takes pictures at all events both social and educational.
4. Acts as the student liaison to the webmaster.
5. Maintains attractive bulletin boards in the rehearsal area.
6. Coordinates with the Director of Bands the assimilation of information to the public regarding the FMC
